Brazilian Girls to headline the 2nd annual Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe!

Brazilian Girls are happy to announce their first show of 2010, headlining the 2nd annual Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe on August 1, 2010. This show will mark the first of several dates for the band this year, as they continue to work on a new record.

Returning to the stunning peaks of Squaw Valley USA in Lake Tahoe, CA from July 29 – August 1, 2010, this four-day yoga and music experience is a feast for the body and the senses – a place to relax, unwind, bend, dance, revel, and contemplate. This year’s Wanderlust Festival features even more of the good stuff – expanded yoga offerings, more great music, a complement of organic foods and biodynamic wines, and the same incredible scenery and community that made last year’s event such a hit.  The New York Times said it best:  festivalgoers get “the same rejuvenating charge from raucous dancing as from mindful breathing.”

Wanderlust showcases a range of teachers, classes and styles that will inspire and challenge all practitioners, from the curious beginner to longtime students.  This year’s yoga line-up features some of the most notable names in yoga, including Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste, Duncan Wong, Elena Brower and Schuyler Grant. Wanderlust will include other renowned instructors like Doug Swenson, Jason Nemer & Jenny Sauer-Klein (the Acroyogis), Janet Stone, Les Leventhal, Rusty Wells, Sianna Sherman, Annie Carpenter, Vinnie Marino, Brock & Krista Cahill, Suzanne Sterling and Maya Fiennes, among many others.

The music at Wanderlust is a soundtrack for the weekend, featuring both music to flow to and music to dance to.  After a day of focusing on the inner self, at night it’s time to let loose at one of the high-energy dance parties down at the Kula Village.  Brazilian Girls will be joined by Moby, Bassnectar, and Pretty Lights as well as Yard Dogs Road Show, Beats Antique, Rupa & The April Fishes, MC Yogi, Orgone, Princess Superstar, Dave Stringer, DJ Dragonfly, Ana Sia, The Mayapuris, Shaman’s Dream, Rara Avis, Desert Dwellers, and many more.

A limited number of advance-priced yoga + music tickets go on-sale Tuesday, February 16th at 10am CDT at www.wanderlustfestival.com
.  Prices start at $340 for a three-day Seeker pass and $420 for a four-day Sage pass.  Every Wanderlust yoga + music ticket gives you three classes per day with your choice of amazing teachers plus access to the Kula Village, High Camp, the cable car, and all music events on that day. Prices are inclusive of service fees. Music-only tickets will go on sale Tuesday, May 4th.

Brazilian Girls and David Byrne Join Forces

The Grammy-nominated Brazilian Girls have teamed-up with the legendary David Byrne to release an English-language version of the song “Losing Myself.” Byrne duets with lead singer Sabina Sciubba on the new version of the song, available exclusively through iTunes on March 24.

Sciubba explains that the song is “a journey through New York City’s subway, streets, crowds, nights and clubs. Everywhere you go, you leave something behind: your scarf, a shoe, a memory, your money, an ear, your friends, your head ...until you end up being light as a feather and you have nothing left but your freedom."

The original version of the song, recorded in French, was released last summer on the Brazilian Girls latest full length album New York City (Verve Forecast). The Grammy-nominated album was applauded by critics, with the New York Times declaring it “a benediction, or a prayer, from an analog limbo,” and Variety proclaiming them “the only dance band that matters.”

Brazilian Girls - New York City

“…a benediction, or a prayer, from an analog limbo.”

“…tracks designed for Prosecco-soaked rooftop soirees.”

“Brazilian Girls have no problem making their mish-mash sound downright normal …Albums like New York City stress that in 2008, everything—people, music, whatever—is a hybrid of some kind. For the Brazilian Girls, its casual exoticism isn't just a point of honor, it's the only path that makes sense.”

“…the only dance band that matters.”

“…New York City sounds equally well-suited for Tokyo karaoke bars and South American milongas. But for all its international flavor, the album stays true to its titular subject, paying tribute to Brazilian Girls' hometown.”

“On ‘New York City,’ Brazilian Girls have crafted a set as internationally diverse as the Big Apple itself.”

“…crazily eclectic…increasingly experimental…appealing peculiar…”

“New York City is a lounge-y pileup of bossa rhythms and Old World romantic ache, girded by slithery push-button funk throb—at once trashy refined and happily trashy.”

“Riff genius, immaculate drummer and fashion diva: The Girls resemble Blondie more and more every year. And that’s a good thing.”

“…the trio jumps between genres and samples rhythms from several Big Apple (and world) neighborhoods with club-thumping success. The album bumps from electronica to cabaret to jazz and back again; it's busy but never feels schizophrenic.”

“…a joyous mix of jazz, bossa nova, reggae and other exotic rhythms, sensuous melodies and absurdist humor.”

“…a sometimes messy, often exhilarating, and always cool mishmash of cultures and styles.”

“…their third studio album, the band’s most complex and groovable to date, is an homage to their hometown and titled simply New York City.”

Message from Didi

Ok then...Here we go; First blog. This is one week after BG's third record (NYC) came out. We had a really good time, a happy moment putting out a work that we put so much love into. First, we played an intimate set at the Apple Store in Soho. It's nice to do different things. We had played to a beautifull crowd at Lollapalooza two days before. Anyway, after the set we jumped on a party bus, full bar and soundsystem (loud). We went around NYC with some really cool and lovely fans, listening to music and celebrating. Our friend, film director Wayne Price seized the occasion to shoot a video for the Song Berlin. After the bus ride, I dj'ed for an hour at the meat packing district apple store. Nice....
Now Sabs is in the south of France, and Aaron in Turkey. I'm in Mexico, my second home for 2008. Tomorrow i'm leaving for Chiapas, jungle, south of Mexico, home of the Zapatistas, The ruins of Palenque, a whole lot of planet earth's natural beauty. I'm gonna try to bring back some footage to share with you all...till next time...
